My take on the opening of the Louvre Abu Dhabi for Atlas, the Etihad inflight magazine, November 2017.
Seven-page preview of the Louvre Abu Dhabi for Atlas, the Etihad inflight magazine. This is a story I've been waiting to cover since before moving to the UAE and one that gave me the opportunity to get a sneak preview of the opening exhibits as well as talking to the people behind this belief-beggaring project. Go to page 56 of the e-magazine to access the full article.
Editing and producing this bilingual report for the World Wildlife Fund's local office in the UAE was an inspiring experience. The work this small team manages to do in the often restrictive context of the UAE is simply amazing. Published in 2016, I hope this report contributes to progress towards more sustainable business practices. A project I pitched and then saw through from concept to delivery. The Great Outdoor Gallery explores the development of public art in the UAE, including a chapter on how public art spread throughout the Arab Gulf states. Launched at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2015, the book is available through the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, Dubai.
An essay for WTD on Khor Fakkan, a satellite town on the UAE's east coast, as seen from the perspective of pioneering local artist Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim. A few unfortunate edits aside, this was a great assignment to work on and a very welcome opportunity to get out my camera again. Click image to open PDF.
This book was an eye-opening (not to mention mouth-watering) project to work on. Created for Zaabeel Palace Hospitality and the Dubai World Hospitality Championship, it attempts to capture the flavour of authentic local hospitality. A 130-page compendium of cultural insight, recipes and chef portraits, it comprises sections on traditional etiquette, dress, kitchen tools and cooking methods as well as 21 recipes and 10 fold-out infographics. The best thing about this assignment? The rare opportunity talk to some of the UAE's first professional chefs while enjoying real Emirati food and hospitality. Click image to open PDF.

For the London 2012 Olympics, Al Bayan commissioned an infographics-based cross-media special. Graphics director Luis Chumpitaz devised a collectible print supplement, the pages of which could be assembled into a giant poster featuring an oversized QR code (linking to a series of online infographics) on one side and elaborate illustrations on the other. Amazing to work with such talented designers and illustrators! Click image to open PDF.

The future of farming in the Middle East was at the centre of this article for brownbook magazine, published in 2009.
