An essay for WTD on Khor Fakkan, a satellite town on the UAE's east coast, as seen from the perspective of pioneering local artist Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim. This book was an eye-opening (not to mention mouth-watering) project to work on. Created for Zaabeel Palace Hospitality and the Dubai World Hospitality Championship, it attempts to capture the flavour of authentic local hospitality. A 130-page compendium of cultural insight, recipes and chef portraits, it comprises sections on traditional etiquette, dress, kitchen tools and cooking methods as well as 21 recipes and 10 fold-out infographics. The best thing about this assignment? The rare opportunity talk to some of the UAE's first professional chefs while enjoying real Emirati food and hospitality. Click image to open PDF.

More than two years in the making, Live from the Emirates: UAE Media History Uncovered is one of the first books about the development of mass media in the UAE. Published by Al Bayan and DMI, it was launched at the Arab Media Forum 2014 and won the Sharjah International Book Fair award for Best Emirati Book about the UAE. Graphics director Luis Chumpitaz devised a collectible print supplement, the pages of which could be assembled into a giant poster featuring an oversized QR code (linking to a series of online infographics) on one side and elaborate illustrations on the other.
